Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says it’s a big day in history with the death of former Soviet Union leader Mikhail Gorbachev.
“Shake your head when you look at the move back to autocracy for Russia after those heady days of the 1980s,” Mr Clennell said.
“The winds of change did not keep blowing although they saw many countries freed from Soviet rule.”
He said Prime Minister Anthony Albanese issued a statement following Gorbachev’s death, which claimed that we have lost one of the “true giants of the 20th Century”.
