Some information officers from various government entities have expressed data protection concerns after the Electoral Commission unveiled the new Biometric Voter Verification Kit for the upcoming 2026 general elections. To prevent hacking, two of the upgraded Biometric Voter Verification Kits, which will be provided to each polling station nationwide, will operate offline during the elections.
The commission has also identified internet misuse and the abuse of social media platforms as significant challenges to ensuring a peaceful election.
