Parminder Singh Bhamra began his taaleem from Bhai Sahib Bhai Baldeep Singh in 2003, the Khalifa of one of the oldest surviving traditions of percussion in India, the Sultanpur Lodi – Amritsari Baaj.
Parminder Singh has also had the privilege to study with master percussionists such as Pandit Panna Lal Upadhyaya, Pandit Ravishankar Upadhyay and Pandit Mohan Shyam Sharma. He achieved recognition in both India and the US as both a solo pakhawaj player and an accompanist.
Among his awards is “Best Solo Pakhawaj player at India’s Academy of Dance and Drama, 2013. His many performance venues include the Laya Darshan: Revealing the Riches of Indian Rhythm (2005, The Anad Foundation, New Delhi); ongoing faculty at Hofstra University (New York- Sept. 25, 2008; May 21, 2010; April, 2014; November, 2016); the 134th Harballabh Sangeet Sammellan (2009, Jalandhar); LUMS University (April 4, 2010, Lahore); Harvard, Yale, and Columbia Universities (2016, USA). Parminder is currently based in Italy and in one of Europe’s only Pakhawaj player.
