“Life as a Long Road:Cello Concerto” is not a simple piece of program music. For the composer it holds meaning much greater than the simple title bestowed.

This Cello Concerto was completed in March of 1990, exactly on the 50th year of the composer Guan Nai-Zhong’s life.
The composer had spent his youth in the 50s full of ambition and hope for the revolution and life. In the 60s, he was affected by the Great Cultural Revolution which caused turbulence within the country lasting up to 10 years.
In the 70s, he moved and settled in Hong Kong. Over the next decades, despite experiencing coldness in human nature and unfortunate circumstances, the composer persevered with his ambitions for music creation. His passion for this art form and life remains unchanged.
The “Life Long Road: Cello Concerto” is Guan Nai-Zhong’s biography, his reflection of his experiences over his 50 years on earth.
