Receiving a mid-life update for 2021, the current generation of 5 Series has been refreshed on the outside and inside, and under the bonnet, to build a more competitive midsize executive sedan. The new 5 Series is currently offered as a PHEV model, the 530e, and with four-, six-, or eight-cylinder engine choices varying from the 530i to the limited-run M5 CS. The 540i xDrive model featured in this review obviously shows off the new design, touchscreen and other pieces of interior tech, as well as sporting the straight-six engine with its new 48V mild hybrid system.
