Moritz Moszkowski worked with his brother Alexander to write and compose 'Anton Notenquestcher am Clavier'. It begins with narration written by Alexander, which returns in between each of the variations. The variations are described as "musical parodies", in which the theme ('Im Grunewald, im Grunewald ist Holzauktion') is played in the style of the listed composer, sometimes directly inserting the theme into an existing piece. For example, the Chopin variation is based on the opus 53 polonaise, and Rubinstein's variation uses his 'Etude on False Notes'. Moszkowski's parodies are very similar to today's musical parodies, such as the 'Happy Birthday in the style of different composers' parodies.
