With the purchase of multi-axle buses, the State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) is hoping to compete with private bus operators
in terms of passenger comfort and safety. The SETC will soon be operating its first multi-axle buses, purchased from Volvo.
The senior SETC official said the Volvo buses operated by the Metropolitan Transport Corporation in the city
were single axle buses, whereas the multi-axle buses purchased for the SETC are bigger in size
(15 metres against the normal 12 metres), and have additional space and comfort.
A total of 20 buses would be operational in the first phase, the official added.
