Following a couple of weeks of diesel assisted steam due to the dry conditions nationwide, 35028 Clan Line would be allowed to take her next Belmond ‘Golden Age of Travel’ duty around the Kent coast solo, following significant rain which has reduced the risk of lineside fires.
Having been drawn by the sound of the Merchant powering out of Chatham tunnel from other clips online, the first location was the latter, witnessing Clan Line, who was sporting her original red nameplates on this trip, take her unassisted 13 coach load through the station catching the attention of onlookers in the process. The second shot, now on the return journey, sees the Merchant at speed through Dunton Green, passing in perfect sunshine that had originally been forecast as cloudy as she returns her train to the capital.
