This video is a review of the Brooks Aurora BL max cushion daily trainer. The retail price is $200.00 U.S. dollars. They are a neutral road shoe that I ordered true to size, although they seem to run just a little long. They weight 8.4oz for a men's size 9 on my scales or 238g. The Aurora BL was designed by the Brooks BlineLine laboratory. This is the same department of Brooks that brought us the Hyperion Tempo and the Hyperion Elite running shoes. They are the innovation hub for Brooks. The Aurora BL features a mono mesh upper that is lightweight and breathable with a transparent upper in the toe box. The eyelet chain is a classic style that features some plastic around the toe box that adds durability. It does well to keep you locked-in and secure. Brooks did include the additional eyelet so you can run with a runners knot. They feature a bootie construction that is thin with quilted pockets of padding and a stretch band at the top. The collar is not padded but is comfortable and feels a little lower cut. The heel tab is lightly padded with a slight achilles heel notch on the tab that is very comfortable. The heel counter has very little structure but feels stable with the DNA Loft V3 foam coming up high on the upper and wraps your heel. The midsole features a ton of their DNA Loft V3 midsole foam. They have a 38mm stack height in the heel and 32mm in the forefoot for an 6mm offset. The foam is Nitrogen Infused that makes it lightweight, highly cushioned, bouncy, with a good deal of energy return. The geometry of the midsole features an extended heel adding more cushion and comfort underfoot along with a slight dovetail design. It has a fairly aggressive rocker that works nicely to help create a natural feeling as you roll through your gait cycle. The most interesting piece of the midsole is the decoupled heel that allows it to move independently of the forefoot. This creates a unique feeling over other running shoes but doesn't take long to get use to it. The decoupled heel and forefoot provides for a smooth ride and a snappy toe off experience. Overall I think Brooks did a great job introducing new midsole foam along with the decoupled heel and forefoot combination creating an exciting and fun run experience.
