Kazakhstan Pledges $500 Million for Afghanistan’s Railway Development
In a major step towards enhancing regional connectivity, Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Serik Zhumangarin announced a $500 million investment in the construction of the Torghundi–Herat–Kandahar railway in Afghanistan.
The announcement was made during an official meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs of Afghanistan, Haji Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar. The leaders discussed a range of strategic topics including trade, transit, agriculture, and transportation.
As part of the growing cooperation between the two nations, a joint roadmap was signed to strengthen bilateral ties and economic collaboration. The railway investment is seen as a significant move toward building the Trans-Afghan Corridor, aimed at reducing cargo delivery times and facilitating smoother regional trade.
The Torghundi–Herat–Kandahar railway will connect Central Asia to South Asia, positioning Afghanistan as a vital link in international trade routes. The project is expected to generate employment, boost trade opportunities, and contribute to the long-term economic stability of the region.
This partnership marks a new chapter in Kazakhstan-Afghanistan relations and sets a foundation for broader regional integration and development.
