After the invasion, Rukia (Michelle Ruff), Renji (Wally Wingert), and Kenpachi (Catero Colbert) are treated by Squad 4, along with the surviving Soul Reapers as Byakuya (Dan Woren) barely clings to life. Mayuri (Terrence Stone) tells Ichigo (Johnny Yong Bosch) that as his Zanpakutō was destroyed while in Bankai state, it cannot be fixed. The captains mourn Yamamoto (Neil Kaplan). Ichigo and the captains meet with Squad 0, consisting of the five most elite former captains, who protect the Soul King in the Royal Palace. Ichigo and the captains, talk to Urahara (Doug Erholtz), Orihime (Stephanie Sheh), and Chad (Alain Mesa), who were saved from Quilge (Xander Mobus) by a concealed Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez (David Vincent). Kūkaku Shiba (Cindy Robinson) sends Ichigo, Byakuya, Renji, Rukia, and Squad 0 to the Royal Palace above the Seireitei, where Zangetsu could be reforged. Kūkaku, having sent them up to the Royal Palace, joins her brother Ganju (Kyle Hebert), Kūgo Ginjō (Chris Swindle), Shūkurō Tsukishima (Anairis Quiñones), and Giriko Kutsuzawa (Michael Sorich), who now reside in the Soul Society, since they were killed with a Zanpakutō, given a proper burial, and did not become Hollows. At the Royal Palace, Ichigo, Rukia, Renji, and Byakuya, are being healed by Tenjirō Kirinji (Mick Lauer), a member of Squad Zero and the one who taught Unohana healing techniques. The Soul King is seen awakening.
