Iterative mixing is a common approach in the field of audio production, where the mixing process involves making adjustments, listening to the results, and then making further adjustments based on the feedback received. This cycle of tweaking and refining is repeated multiple times until the desired sonic outcome is achieved.
The iterative mixing process can be beneficial because it allows for a gradual improvement of the mix. By continuously making adjustments and listening critically, we can address various elements such as levels, panning, EQ, compression, and effects in a more balanced and impactful way.
Iterative mixing should be a part of the mixing process because it allows for a more thorough exploration of different possibilities, leading to a more polished final product. As we discover in this video it enabled us to catch and rectify several issues or inconsistencies that were not apparent during the initial stages of mixing.
Ultimately, the approach to mixing, including how iterative the process should be, can vary depending on the individual, the project, and the desired outcome. Some mixes may require more iterations than others, but the underlying principle of refining and improving through repeated adjustments is valuable in achieving professional and high-quality audio results.
