Performance at a concert of the Estonian Electronic Music Society, at the Estonian Centre for Contemporary Music, Tallinn, 18 March 2023.
The work itself (Eine kleine Eierschneidermusik, A Little Egg-slicer Music) is an improvisation piece by British electronic music pioneer Hugh Davies (1943-2005). It is published in his book Sounds Heard (2002)., pp 51-54. Hugh Davies made use of invented instruments often constructed from found objects. One of the ideas of the piece is that the composer requested tapes of the different tracks from his colleagues by post.
Here I play an improvised solo part over four tape tracks played back on a reel-to-reel tape recorder, very kindly loaned to me by Doris. Two of the four tape tracks were very generously supplied by Juhani Liimatainen.
For the solo part I used several egg slicers, a cake slicer, a spring reverb and the Make Noise Phonogene module.
