In this video, Bob Paulinski Master of Wine discusses the top sparkling wine values from Trader Joes. you’re in the right place. This video will focus on a couple of must buy options that are priced at under $15 per bottle. Both made by the Traditional Method.
First up is the Trader Joe’s Platinum Reserve Traditional Method sparkling from Sonoma for $14.99. Made from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier, same as the usual players used in Champagne. It’s made from a blend of vintages. It’s limited offering available for a few months per year.
Pale color, fine bead of bubbles, good mousse, citrus rind, green apples, good intensity on the aromas, slight roasted nut character, clean, modern style, And that’s the key to good sparkling, bright acidity. moderate dosage level, touch of sweetness, but that’s countered by a vibrant acidity level.
Next up, La Borgundie Cremant de Bourgogne rose’ at $11.99. Made from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Aligote and Gamay. In France, many regions that produce Cremant, often the best come from Burgundy. The red varieties lend the color to the wine with a short maceration time with the grape juice.
Nice fizz, good persistent bead, bit of red fruit character, lively, bright, pure, good intensity, nice weight on the palate, slight dosage, this is an exceptionally put together wine for a bare bones cost.
My conclusion: the TJs Platinum Reserve Sparkling from Sonoma brings outstanding value. You could pay twice the money and not get this quality. It’s made in a crowd pleaser style. It’s rock solid. For a big group, you can’t go wrong. If you want it, act now. And for just over $10 there are two Cremants from the same producer that are well worthwhile.
