When Charles Dickens wrote his beloved story, A Christmas Carol, he could never have dreamed of how his Ebenezer Scrooge would live on in the hearts of people for centuries to come. Unfortunately, today’s ‘bosses and bigwigs’ seem to be taking their cues from Scrooge’s character before he was visited by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come.

But as this song reminds us, if we don’t let the injustices of the world change who we are deep down inside, then all the corporate greed in the world can’t squeeze the Christmas out of us.

The Ebenezer Squeeze comes to you in six very different styles:

• The WACS get things started with their snazzy 1940s jazz-swing take on the Squeeze, complete with a wink to postwar culture.

• And what would a Christmas carol be without a madrigal version? The Merry Few are back by popular demand, putting their own Victorian twist on a problem as old as man himself.

• Then the energy really picks up with Lorelei Fontaine’s holiday showstopper, complete with igloos and candy canes — a woman who knows how to do Christmas right while thumbing her nose at anyone who gets in her way.

• From there, we return to the 1940s with Marv Rossi and his Las Vegas lounge-lizard flair, served with an extra wallop of big-band punch (both in the music and in his martini glass).

• But sooner or later, we have to start moving forward in time — and The Sparkplugs are just the group to lead us into the 1950s with their rock-and-roll rendition, proving that even clean-cut lettermen can raise a fist to the establishment.

• And to wrap things up, we settle into a good old-fashioned gospel revival version that will have you laughing and crying at the same time.
