3D scanning is a technology used to capture the exact shape, size, and geometry of a physical object or environment and convert it into a digital 3D model. The scanner collects millions of data points (called a point cloud) from the object’s surface, which are then processed using software to create an accurate three-dimensional representation.
How It Works
3D scanners use methods such as laser scanning, structured light, or photogrammetry to measure distances between the scanner and the object. These measurements are combined to recreate the object’s geometry with high precision.
Types of 3D Scanning
Laser Scanning: Uses laser beams to capture precise surface details
Structured Light Scanning: Projects light patterns to detect shape and contours
Photogrammetry: Uses multiple photographs to build a 3D model
