NYC Chelsea + DUMBO: Antoni Tàpies, Agnes Martin, David Byrne, Li Songsong & Brooklyn Art Scene

A day exploring new art in New York City — beginning in Chelsea at Pace Gallery and ending in Brooklyn at the new CSB Fine Arts in DUMBO.

We start at Pace Gallery, where three exhibitions are currently on view:

Antoni Tàpies’ exhibition focuses on works on paper, revealing the artist’s expressive mark-making, layered textures, and material sensitivity on a more intimate scale. These pieces highlight the depth of his experimentation beyond canvas and sculpture.

Agnes Martin’s serene grids and luminous fields of tone embody her lifelong pursuit of calm and perfection through repetition and restraint — quiet, meditative, and deeply human.

As we move through the stairwell, we encounter hand-drawn figures and whimsical line drawings by David Byrne, the musician (former frontman of Talking Heads) and artist, who filled each landing with spontaneous sketches — a playful, personal touch woven through the building.

On the 7th floor, Li Songsong presents large, impastoed paintings composed of thick layers of color. His works explore collective memory, historical imagery, and the passage of time through texture and paint.

After Pace, we drive to Brooklyn, where CSB Fine Arts — a new gallery in DUMBO — presents its second group exhibition, featuring works by Ramon I. Bonilla, Eric French, Eduardo Cabrer, Yamileth Flores-Reyes, and Carlos Ayala Barreto. Together, the artists bring vibrant perspectives on abstraction, identity, and place, marking CSB Fine Arts as a fresh addition to the Brooklyn art scene.
