Locomotive K36 #482 out of hibernation was sent to “Retrieve” the SP #18 and tow her backwards 15 miles back to Durango. The Southern Pacific #18 on loan to the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad had a “Bad Day” the day before (4/9/19) climbing Hermosa Hill when the right piston broke and knocked a hole in the cylinder head. The disabled locomotive was pushed back into Pinkerton Siding and the passengers and cars were pulled back to Durango by diesel #11. Coming soon the full video (Rockwood to Durango yard limit) catches up with the 482 on the tail of the wye at Rockwood. They picked up 3 hoppers and a gon at Hermosa on the way up for additional braking on the way down for when the out of view 18 was picked up. Earlier in the morning roundhouse crew removed the damaged piston and rod.
