Mt. Sneffels (14,155') Southwest Ridge via Blue Lakes on July 7, 2024.
This one was special. Beautiful hike in to Lower Blue Lake where we set up camp and proceeded to spend the remainder of the day hanging out on its rocky beach trying to determine if the vibrant turquoise was a glitch in the simulation or possibly copious amounts of food dye (jokes aside, it's actually the result of glacial flour suspended in the water distorting the wavelengths of sunlight, reflecting blueish-green hues).
Superman, Homestretch, and I got an early start the next morning for Sneffels. Hiked up to Middle and Upper Blue Lakes while watching the morning light highlight the surrounding peaks before gaining the ridge at Blue Lakes Pass and banging a left to head up Sneffels via the Southwest Ridge.
Just over an hour and a half of stunning class 3 climbing to reach the summit. Without a doubt, one of my favorite natural playgrounds with absolutely unbelievable views.
I've consistently found that every time I'm in the San Juans I have moments where I struggle to comprehend their beauty and the forces of geologic time that have brought them into being. Ultimately, an awe-inspiring couple of days shared with great company and perfect conditions.
