The title "Moonlight" was not an idea for this sonata by its composer Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827). It was invented later by the music critic and poet Ludwig Rellstab (1799-1860, some of whose poems were set to music by Franz Schubert). The subtitle of this sonata - in this case by Beethoven himself - says "like a fantasy" (quasi una fantasia) and is a very helpful hint for how the first movement should be played, measured but quite freely. Enjoy.
0:05 - Adagio sostenuto (alla breve)
5:06 - Allegretto
7:21 - Presto agitato
