Utilization and Marketing Specialist Dave Bruton joins Custom Forestry Applications owner Luke Terry to share more about the walnut hulling process. Luke and his wife, Jaime, opened a walnut hulling station near Robinson, KS in 2023.
Black walnut trees produce annual nut crops that can be used in food products, beauty products and commercial applications. Hammons Product Company, in Stockton, Missouri, purchases millions of pounds of black walnut each fall from local hulling stations in Kansas. These hulling stations purchase walnut seeds directly from Kansas landowners.
Kansans can bring nuts to this and other stations during walnut hulling season for a per pound payout. This service keeps walnuts out of landfills, off sidewalks and helps to bring money into the Kansas economy.
