sus 4 chords have no third. They are neither minor, nor major. The lack of a minor or a major third in the chord creates a cool, open sound.
Instead of using the intervals 1-3-5 as we do in a triad, here we replace the third with the perfect fourth. Thus, we get 1-4-5 as the chord tones. Cool?
