Kazuya vs Paul - Tekken 8 Stop Motion

But in all seriousness this video was a pleasure to work on. You may notice that this is the first stop motion I’ve posted in about a year. In truth, I started this immediately after my first upload, but I felt there was a lot to improve before I could call this project finished. I did a lot of research and experimentation which lead to progress, then scraping things that didn’t look right. It was a seemingly endless cycle, sometimes 2 steps forward and three steps back. To take breaks, I worked on what I labeled, stop motions tests; where I messed around with different techniques and saw what worked in stop motions no longer than 15 seconds. It was all in service of this very video. When I began this, Tekken 7 was the current game released and when finishing it I was 3 months into Tekken 8.

The first half of the video was at 11 frames per second, and after Kazuya’s transformation, I made the decision to increase it to 15 frames per second which made all the difference for me. It’s surreal to see something I imagined so clearly recreated in video form and it’s quite the personal accomplishment for me.

If you look at my last “full length” battle, you may be able to sus out the structure and format of future Toy World Tournament battles: intros, fight, outro and end credit scene that teases the next project (sorry Reptile didn’t make the cut after Jin vs Cyrax, he will return someday), this is what I hope I can create and materialize until I’m tired of it. All for the love of the game… and toys… and photography…
