Going through the records in my collection for the first of a two part look at conscious dancehall artist Cocoa Tea who sadly passed away March 11, 2025 at 65 years of age...a sweet voiced and versatile singer who epitomized the early dancehall era of the 1980's, Cocoa Tea would go on to record a prodigious number of hit songs and albums over a career that spanned five decades and become one of Jamaica's most beloved performers. Here I detail his early years and first successes with early producers like Junjo Lawes, King Jammy and Gussie Clarke.
