The Grand Traverse | A race Story from Crested Butte to Aspen

Lines aren’t easily drawn between the iconic, contrasting ski towns of Crested Butte and Aspen. But one thread has held strong: The Grand Traverse—a point-to-point ski race that links the towns through the Elk Mountains that sit between them.

Rounding on its 25th year in 2023, The Grand Traverse has been a premier ski mountaineering event in Colorado since its inception. Today, top competitors cover the 40-mile distance, climbing more than 6,800 feet along the way, within six hours. While fast times are the goal for some, 10 frostbite-less digits and reaching the finish line is the achievement for others.

Regardless of how it ends, competitors are left with a sense of accomplishment. In this short film, “The Grand Traverse,”directed by Mike Rogge and Verb Cabin, watch as 165 teams, with Aspen in their sights, endeavor to go the distance.
