Except the "baby" turned out to be a battle-hardened warrior with a grudge, a spear, and a well-laid ambush plan. The 1285 invasion was a total disaster. Tens of thousands of Mongol troops—many of them elite warriors—never made it home. The jungles of Dai Viet turned into their final resting place. Even some of the Yuan Dynasty’s best generals weren’t spared, and met their end at the hands of Vietnamese forces.
