I just do not understand how men could be so commonly "in love" with other (younger) men in ancient Greece. In the middle of Plato's Phaedrus, where he waxes so eloquently on the subject of love and places boys as the object of this love, I got wondering, and so hypothesized: can it be that romance and sexual desire are not related at all, but that the former is purely idea-made, and that we today, as a consequence, have our own nonsensical idea that romance and marriage must coincide, when, in fact, one can as equally "be in love with" a shoe, a turnip, or a cat?
