Learn Quran | Maddah Letters | Al Jauf - The Empty Space Of The Mouth | Lesson 6

In this lesson of our tajweed course, we will discuss a very interesting and different makhraj meaning articulation point, and our 4th Makhraj named Al Jauf meaning the empty space of the mouth proceeding towards the chest through the throat.

In short, Al Jauf is the empty space of the mouth and is makhraj or articulation point for three letters.

The letter category that falls under this makhraj or articulation point is Maddah Letters which are unique in their pronunciation and holds a special place in the world of Tajweed. while learning the Quran.

There are three maddah letters: Alif maddah, Wao maddah and Yaa maddah.

Maddah meaning is to stretch therefore we read maddah letters by stretching them up to one alif or two harakah.

Alif maddah sounds like English vowel Aa, and Wao maddah sounds like English vowel Oo/Uu whereas Yaa maddah sounds like the vowel Ii/Ee of English vowel.

This lesson is designed to make the concept of maddah letters more clear and with the help of practice material students will gain a better understanding and can master Tajweed.
