In my sophomore English class, I have my students work on a Google-style 20% project. They are given 20% of their time in English to pursue a project of their choosing. They present a proposal at the beginning of the year, reflect on the experience in a weekly blog, and present their work in a final five-minute TED-style talk where they reflect on the process, the challenges they faced, and the lessons they learned. This is a sample of a few of the talks trimmed down to two minutes.
