Woodrow Wilson Bridge - Full Lift 2025

The Woodrow Wilson Bridge is a bascule bridge along the Capital Beltway on I-95/I-495. Bridge lifts occur about once every month for testing, but may open more frequently for boats not able to fit under the 70 foot span.

Bridge lifts for testing typically take about 10-15 minutes, but may take longer in certain situations.

Test openings occur typically on a schedule, however they typically occur after 10 PM when traffic is lighter.

This bridge lift occurred at 12 am sharp.

Bridge lifts that are scheduled are typically posted on AlertDC (DC Alerting System) and the 511 Virginia website under "Bridge Openings".

For those interested in parking and viewing this bridge, my suggestion is to park along S Washington Street. An address I use for my GPS is 913 S Washington St. MAKE SURE you do not park in the bus stops (and note parking signs). There are two sets of pedestrian gates on the bridge; sometimes you are permitted to cross the first, but NOT the second (you're allowed to go where the signs and viewing things are). DO NOT cross onto the roadway for any reason!
