A family-run business now in its third generation, Surrette Battery Company is one of North America's leading lead-acid battery manufacturers. Established in 1935, with a production facility in Salem, Mass. Surrette relocated to Springhill, NS in 1959 and is Canada’s only remaining independent battery manufacturer.
Branded under the Rolls Battery name, Surrette’s product lines are known to be among the best premium deep cycle batteries in the industry.
The long-standing Rail and Marine markets have provided steady growth for the company for much of that time. Since the mid-1980’s, however, popularity and resulting demand for alternative energy solutions has increased significantly worldwide.
Surrette produces a full range of flooded and maintenance-free sealed AGM deep cycle batteries distributed for use in renewable energy applications from small residential to larger-scale off-grid and grid-tied systems throughout North America, Europe, Australasia and the Middle East. These products are also used in remote village electrification and backup power applications in developing regions such as Africa, parts of Mexico and throughout South America. The batteries provide storage for solar and wind power in areas where electricity may not have been previously available as well as grid-tied applications in regions prone to frequent power outages and high utility costs such as the Caribbean.
Now over 60 percent of total production is dedicated to off-grid renewable energy storage products.
