She Was Betrayed, Tortured & Left to Die in the Mud by Her Best Friends

July 27th, 1997… Detectives arrive at a remote logging trail in rural Virginia. What greets them isn’t silence, but a chilling sound – the hum of swarming blowflies.

Lying in the mud, they find the battered and semi-nude body of a young woman - Stacey Hanna. She has 65 separate cuts and wounds, a fractured skull, and clumps of mud have been packed into her mouth. And on her thigh, one word has been carved into her skin with a box cutter: “LIAR.”

This was no ordinary murder… it was prolonged, brutal and personal. And it would unfold into one of the most shocking and unusual crimes in the state’s history. But what would drive someone to end her life in such a grisly and inhumane way?
