After a bit of cleanup removing old hammer marks I start welding on the 3/8" spring steel face plate. The mild steel by itself will work for a viking recreation anvil but I am hoping to get a little more work from the anvil and less from the arm.
I managed to catch three different pieces of red hot slag between my fingers and the hammer handle, that makes for some fun work!
The Anvil finished out at 7lb 6oz and still needs one final heat treatment as its a little softer than I want.
