The live album was recorded on December 14, 1988 for the television show Austin City Limits in Studio 6A.
Cliffs of Dover” is Eric Johnson’s best‑known instrumental rock composition and won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance in 1992, helping the album reach platinum status.
Johnson first came up with the main descending arpeggio idea in the early 1980s and later recorded the studio version using a Stratocaster and a Gibson ES‑335 through an Echoplex, Tube Driver, and a 100‑watt Marshall.
“Cliffs of Dover” is frequently cited as one of the greatest guitar instrumentals, ranking 17th in Guitar World’s list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Solos.
