Begin by making the middle piece
chain 2, work 7 single crochet if you are in the US or
chain 2, work 7 double crochet if you are in the UK
slip stitch to join if you're in the US
single crochet to join if you're in the UK

round 2
work 8 bean stitches, the last bean stitch will be worked in the slip stitch from the previous round. slip stitch to finish, do not sew in the ends.

round 1. chain 9
3 single crochet in the 2nd chain from the hook
2 single crochet in the next 2 chains
2 half double crochet in the next 2 chains
2 double crochet in the next 2 chains
7 double crochet in the last chain
now work the other side of the chain
2 double crochet in the next 2 chains
2 half double in the next 2 chains
2 single crochet in the next 2 chains
2 single crochet in the last chain or use the hidden stitch
slip stitch to join in the first single crochet

round 2
chain 1, 2 half double crochet in the next stitch
half double crochet in the next 7 stitches
2 half double in the next 7 stitches
half double crochet in the next 9 stitches
slip stitch to join

round 3
chain 1, single crochet in the same space you slip stitched into on the last round and in the BACK LOOP
single crochet in the BACK LOOPS of the next 31 stitches so the total is 32 single crochet

round 4
chain 1, single crochet in the same space you made the slip stitch under both loops this time
single crochet in the next 31 stitches under both loops
slip stitch to join

round 5
chain 1, single crochet in the same space you made the slip stitch
single crochet in the next 8 stitches so you have a total of 9 single crochet
in the 10th stitch work through the first bean stitch and the side of the slipper, then work 2 single crochet in the side of the slipper
then work through the side of the slipper and the next bean stitch
repeat the sequence until you have joined 6 beans
single crochet in the next 7 stitches
slip stitch to join

round 6
slip stitch in the next 8 stitches
single crochet in the bean stitch that already has a single crochet in it
3 single crochet in the next 2 beans
single crochet in the next bean that already has 1 stitch in
slip stitch in the next 8 stitches
fasten off and sew in the ends
