The day I found redfish heaven happened on the quiet, wide-open bays of Port O’Connor, Texas — a shallow-water paradise where bronze tails break the surface and every aspect of the bay water feels alive. I drifted across calm flats watching schools of redfish tail hard over bait that was buried on the bottom, feeding slow and deliberate in that classic Texas inshore style.

Every few minutes another tail would rise, another mud cloud would bloom, and another wake would slide across the flat. Port O’Connor delivered one of those rare days on the Texas coast where the water, light, and movement all line up — turning a simple drift across the bays into a cinematic journey through some of the best inshore redfish fishing on the Gulf.
