High above St Luc and the Sion Valley is Bella Tola - a truly majestical alp that sits some 3025m above sea level. Once you've trudged your bike up to the peak, a 2500m descent to Sierre awaits.
We got there using a bus from Sierre station to Vissoie and then another bus to St Luc where we pedalled to the funicular. We took the funicular up to Tignuosa and began the pedal up to the Cabane Bella Tola. From there we started to hike-a-bike following signs for the Pass du Boef and then Bella Tola summit. It's pretty hard going but not that bad. The descent off the top is super-tech and marvellous fun -- highly recommendable if you're up for a big day out in the hills. Definitely up there as one of the best rides in Europe
