Romania is a country located in Eastern Europe, in the Carpathian region and on the shores of the Black Sea.
It is one of the largest wine producers in the world and one of the oldest, producing wine with indigenous varieties for more than 3000 years.
Romania ranks fifth in Europe in terms of vineyard area after Spain, France, Italy and Portugal.
Jidvei and Cotnari are two of Romania's best known wineries with a similar history.
Jidvei is the largest winery in the country, located in Transylvania, one of the four major Romanian wine regions.
With 2,500 hectares, Jidvei has the largest vineyard in the country and the largest single-owner vineyard area in Europe.
Cotnari is another emblematic Romanian winery, located in the wine-growing region of Moldavia.
Cotnari is the only vineyard in Romania that maintains only indigenous Romanian grape varieties in its vineyards.
For this reason Cotnari is called the "national wine reserve".
