Croc Crossings, Outback Domes & Epic Lakes–East Kimberley w Pets | Kununurra, Bungle Bungles, Argyle

In this East Kimberley adventure, we explore the stunning red landscapes, winding rivers and dramatic rock formations around Kununurra, Lake Argyle and Purnululu National Park (Bungle Bungles) — with our trusty pup Wally by our side! (Paprika had a few rest days after the Gibb!)

While this isn’t part of our Gibb River Road journey (check out our 3 part series), it’s the perfect follow-on as we emerge from the wild and into a slice of (very warm) outback civilisation. Think epic 4WD river crossings, pet-friendly distilleries and scenic tours over ancient outback domes.

🌴 Here's what we got up to:

Rolled into Kununurra – stocked up at Coles (very exciting...first supermarket in weeks) and got a powered site to escape the 40°C heat
Stayed at Kununurra Town Caravan Park – shady sites, pool, fenced dog area, short walk to town
Drove across the legendary Ivanhoe Crossing – one of Australia's coolest water crossings!
Sampled rums and gins at the pet-friendly Hoochery Distillery 🍹
Cooled off at Swim Beach – dog-friendly swimming area beside Lake Kununurra
Took a magic carpet ride to the Bungle Bungles, Lake Argyle and the Argyle Diamond Mine
Day-tripped to Lake Argyle, visiting the dam wall, scenic lookouts and picnic spots
