How to Get Perfect Subwoofer Volume: Step-by-Step Calibration Guide for Epic Bass!

In this video I discuss how to work out exact subwoofer volume levels, so after a calibration with Acoustica, you will already know the trim levels or at least have a ballpark idea. I go through matching SPL volumes to your desired target curve and fix any potential clipping issues. Plus, take care of any clipping issues by using positive boosts on the actual subwoofer channel itself.


NOTES AFTER VIDEO MAKING THE VIDEO: Because of the way Acoustica balances subwoofer volume levels relative to other subs in the system, I don't think nearfield gain-matching is actually needed. Because Acoustica will always fix this difference regardless of sub gain levels. So, I actually think sweeping at the MLP to your desired level with one sub and then the other is the best thing to do, something I didn't do in the video. Because if both subs (for instance) measure 85db average, then Acoustica won't need to apply any relative gains to either sub. Regardless, I think nearfield gain matching (as I did in the video) isn't actually worth it, and if anything was harder to get exact levels because of random pink noise. It would have been far easier to just sweep each sub and get the levels right that way, which is what I'll do next time.

But the basics and ideas in this video is still sound. If both subs measure the same volume at MLP then Acoustica would only have to apply minor changes, like in the 0.1's, if any at all. And that's the entire goal here, to have almost absolute control over volume levels and have the knowledge to know how things will turn out even before a calibration starts.

Doing this while recording the whole thing was interesting for sure, and you learn new things every time you do something, which is what I'm all about.
