First time home birth with my… 5th

I was on a search for midwives that accepted my health insurance. Not only do they accept certain health insurance that qualifys you for a discounted price, they also shared information to another resource called “Philly Birth Fund,” an organization in our community that offers support to families who choose home births.

Additionally, I’m eager to encourage donations towards this great cause (PBF), so that more families can receive the support they need for home births and be available to those who choose home birth regardless of financial situations.

As I was saying. I had the pleasure of being assisted by two midwives who were not only well-educated and professional, but were also incredibly kind and welcoming. Their warm personalities made me feel like we were amongst friends and family.

I was impressed with their interest in my needs and they were very accommodating, even in areas where I had no prior knowledge. They made sure I knew all my options and that my feelings mattered.

Regarding some questions that were raised. “If I got to keep the placenta, planned on taking the baby to the doctor and if I had the option to apply for a birth certificate and social security card.”

Yes I intend to take the baby to the doctor as needed. However, during this time the midwives regularly visited our home to check on the baby’s and my wellbeing.

They performed all the necessary check-ups and routines that are typically done at the hospital.

There was no pressure on getting vaccines, nor were there any long wait times or a pile of documents to sign. I mainly focused on getting enough rest and taking care of the baby.

They provided with applications to apply for a birth certificate and social security card and documentation for family medical leave.

I got to keep my placenta and do with it what I please. Which I will share later.
