The Bollywood Icon Lata Mangeshkar has died. She was the voice of my childhood, and in my mind the female voice of all Bollywood songs.
I knew her voice before I knew her name, which I learned in Rikki Jai's breakout soca song Sumintra, which you can listen to here:
/ watch In the chorus Sumintra tells him, "Hold de Lata Mangeshkar give me soca." She was major!
She visited Trinidad twice in the 80s to sold out crowds, celebrating her 55th birthday here.
I am so grateful to the legendary DJ Mamoo for talking to me about her. His voice is another one from my children.
