US Deploys Lethal B-1B Bombers to Japan to "Respond Anywhere" Amid China Invasion Threat to Taiwan

The US Air Force has deployed B-1B Lancer bombers to Japan for the first time since the Vietnam War, as part of a Bomber Task Force mission. Before their arrival, the B-1Bs conducted joint exercises with Republic of Korea Air Force fighters, flying over the western Korean Peninsula and Osan Air Base. This is the first time B-1Bs have been based in Japan under the Bomber Task Force model as the US bombers only made brief stops in the country until now. This comes amid deployment of six B-2 Spirit stealth bombers also based at Diego Garcia, reflecting an increased US focus on the Indo-Pacific amid rising tensions.  With bombers now based at both Misawa and Diego Garcia, the US is enhancing its ability to respond quickly to threats in the region.
