The Home Office "Earned Settlement" Consultation closes on 12 February 2026. This film is our evidence. Under the proposed new rules, the standard pathway to permanent residency (Indefinite Leave to Remain) will double from 5 years to a 10-year baseline—and for many, it will extend to 20 or even 30 years.
This 6-minute documentary, "The 20-Year Rule: A Lost Generation," features nine powerful stories of individuals who have built their lives in the UK but now face decades of further limbo. We show the faces of those who will be asked to endure a lifetime of fear and uncertainty before they are allowed to belong.
