Vintage Rail Series---BNSF Chillicothe Sub March and April 2001

Here is another video of BNSF trains around Chillicothe IL in March and April 2001. As usual, I shot a lot a night back then.
A pair of patched ATSF EMDs, an SD40-2 and a GP60, start the video pulling an eastbound stack train. A westbound stack train is next behind two H2 Dash 9s and an LMX B39-8E. A hotshot Z soon follows behind three Dash 9s, 2 H2 and a BNSF Warbonnet. The first of many M-GALGYI trains on this video keeps the variety interesting. This train began operation after the 1999 purchase of the IC by CN. It ran from Galesburg to the old GM&O Glenn Yard near Corwith. Another westbound Z train is next with two ATSF GEs and a BN SD60M in between.
Yet another Z train is seen a few nights later with a couple Dash 9s leading an ATSF B40-8W and a patched ex ATSF GP60. Another long M-GALGYI passes with an interesting consist. A B40-8 leads a BNSF SD40-2, a CN SD75, and a CN standard cab SD40-2. A hot westbound Z train comes by next in true Santa Fe fashion with two B40-8Ws with a GP60M in the middle. Our next train is fresh off the NS connection in Streator and is a manifest with a great consist. A 700 series Dash 9 leads a high hood NS SD40-2, a patched ConRail B30-7, and a high hood NS GP40. A westbound Z train needed that get around the NS manifest so the DS routed it up Edelstein Hill on main 2. All Warbonnets were the power for this hotshot, 2 SD75Ms with a 700 Series Dash 9 and a B40-8W. Next up is an eastbound UP trackage rights train with an SSW GP60 leading two UP Dash 8s.
A few days later we watch some daylight action. A heavy stack train puts it's two B40-8Ws to work as they chug eastbound. A long eastbound manifest was next, either M-GALCSX or M-GALSEL, powered by an ex BN SD40-2, an ATSF GP60B, and a B40-8. Union Pacific makes an appearance with a trackage rights eastbound behind fairly new SD70M 4136 and SD40-2 3566. The 4136 had a nice Nathan P3 horn, typical for most of the first couple hundred locomotives of this 1000 unit order.
A few nights later we return for some night action. The first train is an eastbound stacker with a very interesting power move. A GP35 and an SD40 are among the 12 units. Another Union Pacific trackage rights train comes by eastbound behind a wide variety of locomotives. An SP GP60 leads a UP GP60, UP C40-8W, C&NW SD40-2, UP SD60M, and an SP SD45. A westbound is next with a C40-8W leading a BN SD40-2 and an ATSF SD40-2.
A few days later, we see an eastbound in the late afternoon light. This stack train has an ATSF Dash 9 and a BN SD40-2 as ample horsepower. A westbound Z train is seen shortly after with an ATSF Dash 9 leading an SD75I and a patched SD45-2. Another eastbound stack train is next and we are treated to three ex ATSF SD40-2s for power. Yet another M-GALGYI is next powered by a Dash 9, a B40-8, and patched ex BN SD40-2 6386. This was one of the first SD40-2s built, in February '72, as Colorado and Southern 904.
After dark the next night, a low priority intermodal westbound passes with four SD40-2s pulling, three patched ATSF and one in H1. The three yellowbonnets were the same seen the previous evening. Time for another M-GALGYI, this time powered by two CN SD40-2Ws and a BNSF GP50. An eastbound foreign stack train is next with a consist showing the ever modernizing BNSF, an ATSF Dash 9 followed by an H1 and an H2 Dash 9.
A few days later I arrived at Chillicothe with enough time to turn on the camera and jump out to shoot an eastbound manifest bound for the NS at Streator. The rain kept me from getting a video of the whole train. Patched SD75M 8201 leads patched B23-7 4256 and NS SD40-2 6185. Another M-GALGYI is next, and has a real treat in the consist- patched ex ATSF C30-7 5198, maybe the last C30-7 I would ever see active. That night, an eastbound stack passes behind two SD40-2s and a GP60M. Union Pacific makes an appearance with an eastbound pulled by an AC6000CW and a C36-7 (which will be retired in less than a year). Another eastbound is next, a lite power move, an SD75M, three BN SD40-2s, an ATSF Dash 9, and an LMX B39-8E. An eastbound stack train is seen after dark with a BN SD40-2 and freshly patched GP39E 2748. One more M-GALGYI for this video, departing behind CN SD75 5693 and LMSX C40-8W 715. The final train of the night is the Z-CHIDEN pulled by a BN SD60M, two Oakway SD60s, and a soon to be retired SDF40-2.
