I Made My Own Chef's Knife Out Of Porcelain

This started as a crazy idea: could I make a functional chef’s knife entirely out of porcelain clay? I started making these in 2020 and finally made a video to share the process. I know ceramic knives exist, but those are made from zirconium oxide and use all kinds of heavy machinery in the process. Is it possible to make a porcelain knife using traditional pottery tools and a kiln? The answer is... yes! Somewhere between ceramic art and a kitchen experiment, this piece ended up better than I thought it would. It’s not the sharpest tool in the drawer but it cuts and holds an edge. Handmade from blue, gray and black colored porcelain, this ceramic knife was part curiosity, part challenge. I feel like there's more to explore here too. Maybe a cleaver? A bread knife? A sword?
