There’s something unforgettable about watching an artist at work, not just creating but connecting.
Through Jamii’s Emerging Artists program, supported by the RBC Foundation’s Emerging Artist Project, Ana María Higuera Tirado brought her spirit of creativity to LAINI Land at Restoule and to the northern community of Pikangikum.
At Restoule, she helped girls turn memories into a handmade zine, with paper, photographs, and laughter woven into something that felt alive. In Pikangikum, the sound of drums filled a quiet hall until children began to lift their heads, their hands finding the rhythm. Music became a language that needed no translation.
These are the moments that remind us why art matters. How it can heal, connect, and give courage to keep creating.
Jamii’s Emerging Artist program uplifts young artists by connecting them with mentorship opportunities that spark growth, collaboration, and community impact.
