The *Santuari de Cura**, on the summit of **Puig de Randa* in central Mallorca, is one of the island’s most important spiritual and cultural sites. Rising 543 metres above the plain, Puig de Randa has long been a place of solitude, pilgrimage, and contemplation, offering wide views across Mallorca and the surrounding sea.
Cura is most closely associated with *Ramon Llull* (1232–1316), the Mallorcan philosopher, mystic, and writer. After a profound personal conversion, Llull withdrew to Puig de Randa around 1274, living for a time as a hermit in a nearby cave. According to his own autobiographical account (*Vita coetanea*), it was during this retreat that he experienced a moment of *illumination*—a sudden clarity that revealed to him the method and structure of his philosophical system, the *Ars*, which would define his life’s work.
Tradition holds that Llull established a small Marian altar at the site, forming the nucleus of what later became the sanctuary. Over the centuries, Cura developed into a centre of devotion and learning, including a grammar school in the early modern period. Today, the sanctuary remains a place of quiet reflection, hospitality, and remembrance, preserving the legacy of Llull’s search for truth through contemplation, reason, and faith.
