Exhibition degree show about refugees from Ukraine

On 24 February 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine.
Estimates suggest that, since then, a quarter of the population have left their homes to seek refuge abroad. Fragments is a project by Ilona Tarchukova Marchik which explores the way that displacement in times of war shatters lives.
Working with a family of refugees displaced to Almeria in Spain, Marchik combines original photography with selected items from their family archive to build an installation that evokes the instability and violence of war, incorporating found artefacts from the field of battle.
Tarchukova's images are enclosed in transparent plastic cubes which are scattered to emulate the detritus found at ground zero. The lighting is designed to destabilise the field of vision, evoking both the instability of displaced lives and the shadows which are the chilling result of a nuclear explosion
