General Note:
My entire intention for these videos are to act as a visual support towards experiencing and embracing the process of art. Trusting the process is one of the most valuable skills an artist can learn. Understanding that art takes time is another. That’s why the only editing that this project has gone through is to add music, insert the artist’s acknowledgements and notes along the way. I want those seeing this to know how much time this took without the timelapse.
Teaching Notes:
Zentangles: Positive and Negative Space Ink Drawings: Adding Zentangles to Positive Space in Original Lines
In this video, I have separated the positive space lines from the original piece so that we can see them better. In reality, your designs will be going right onto the blank area made in the beginning.
Remember how we made 5 wavy lines, then outlined them, and erased the pencil lines? Those are the line directions that we’re going to ignore. Instead we’re changing the flow of the Zentangle design you pick on another wavy line’s path. It’s important to avoid keeping a flat addition to the line’s interior. We’re not trapping the Zentangle inside the line, we’re constantly changing the direction of it, as if it was a rope style.
You will need to have at least 5 unique designs representing 5 new line paths. If an area of “rope” is left over you can add another design to connect the two. Make sure that whatever you pick is NOT also in the negative space or you run the risk of losing your new line’s path.
We also work with adding ink to areas to separate the design from the others in the piece and line weight which will help the viewer see the layers of the Zentangles you worked with.
Once finished, move on to Positive & Negative Space: Stencil Work

I found a lot through research on Pinterest. There are wonderful references I have on my board here: (18) Pinterest. I will list them individually for proper support in the coming days.

Variations can be made for this based on what the artist would like to apply.

Note about music over audio instructions:
Until I have a quiet space to record directions, I will be avoiding adding them.
Life happens at my house. It’s loud and alive, silly and spontaneous… During nearly all of my videos, ambient sounds are not the only ones recorded.
